Costumer Reviews
I have four kids, and they have quite a few of the Bob friction vehicles. They have been played with a LOT and they really do last well. The Scoop has actually had a couple of pieces break off recently - the back support things and the moving part of his scoop (I dont have a clue what the proper names are!) These parts were broken by my youngest who is VERY hard on his toys and to be honest it hasnt bothered any of them at all!
I would highly recommend the friction vehicles - the best thing is, there's no annoying noises and no batteries to change YAY!
Like the other toys in this collection, Scoop the digger is extremely robust and well made, designed to withstand the knocks and rough play that inevitably come from the age range of children it is targetted at, 2-6 year olds, usually boys! The digger is friction powered and does not require batteries.
The digger looks really appealing to children, with it's bright yelow colour and large wheels. This toy has "googly" eyes, which makes it slightly different from the other toys in the collection, which just have painted eyes. The toy has a large scoop at the front, which you can lift up and down, as well as being able to extend it outwards so it can be manoeuvered like a real digger scoop. The digger has stabilisers on the back, which can be pulled up and down, as well as a long arm on the back with a small mini scoop that moves back and forth. This makes a clicking noise as you pull it up and down, similar to the noises made by the other Bob vehicles. Scoop has a light on the top, but this is for show only and does not switch on and off.
We have had Scoop for about five years, and he has worn quite well, but not as well as the other toys in this collection. You can see in the picture above that Scoop has a small digger scoop at the back on a long arm. Unfortunately, this has broken off on ours, although it didn't leave any sharp bits or shards behind. Another problem is that the friction mechanism that makes Scoop move forwards, no longer works, but we can still roll the toy along the floor with no problems.
All of our Bob vehicles have had lots of use and play over the years and have lots of uses in imaginary play, storytelling, pretend construction and racing around the floor against other cars. The picture does not give an idea of the size of the toy, but it is a lot bigger than an average toy car, measuring about 10 inches in length. This would also be a great toy to play with in a sandpit, as it can scoop up the sand and tip it out.
Scoop has earned it's place as a classic toy in my opinion and an absolute must-have for fans of the TV show. There are so many spin off characters and toys from this show, but in my opinion, the original five vehicles are the only ones you really need for your collection. These are well made toys that can be passed down from child to child when kids get too old to play with them.
